Dr. Schwindt combines Western Medical treatments and Phiosophies with traditional eastern approaches that combine the very best of both worlds. Dr Schwindt developed his unique approach through positive experiences with alternative paradigms. First, as a student of T’ai Chi in NYC, he witnessed episodes of self-healing as a result of chi properly flowing through the body. During medical school, Dr. Schwindt taught at several schools of herbal medicine, supervised clinics, and saw the utility of herbal approaches to established Western diagnoses. Later, he studied the paradigm of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Southwest Acupuncture College, and the Medical Acupuncture for Physicians course through Joseph Helms, MD, culminating in board certification through the American Board of Medical Acupuncture.
Dr. Schwindt began lecturing on alternative medicine while in Residency (Pediatrics and Internal Medicine), and found that there were biases against alternative medicine from faculty that did not seem grounded: this honed Dr. Schwindt’s focus onto evidence-based medicine, as a neutral modality to assess safety and efficacy (and ideally, to overcome bias).
It is this approach that Dr. Schwindt uses in his clinical practice and as a national lecturer on topics as diverse as Complementary and Alternative medicine, Food as Medicine, Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, and Herb/Drug Interactions.
